Bed Time Stories From Burma Burma
When you're done shopping and need a bite, an unexpected treat just makes your evening. That's exactly how I stumbled upon Burma Burma at Mall of India, Noida. Though my colleague had recommended it multiple times, I never got a chance to visit until yesterday.
I walked in expecting the usual oriental menu with improved flavours perhaps. But when the menu was presented to me, with a smile and a bow, I knew this was different. I loved how the sweet lady pulled up a chair for me and a gentleman helped me make a good meal choice. Because honestly, the items on the menu were nothing I'd known before. Interestingly, the menu seemed to talk to me, tell a story. Very fascinating! The bubble teas and information about their little store was amazing. After marvelling at the array of vegan Burmese food options and some fusion twists, I settled on ordering lotus stem crisps and grilled rice stuffed with eggplant and tofu mash!
I changed my mind after looking at their single diner menu. And this is the treat I ended up with:
Samuza Hincho/Samosa Soup:
This is the perfect winter treat and would prove to be very relieving if you have a cold. This appetizing delight was a mouth-watering concoction of herbs, chickpeas and tomatoes. It even reminded me of homestyle meat curries! And the best part was the delicious individuality of the mini samosas that stood out despite being bathing in that awesome soupy pool.
Crunchy Tofu Steamed Buns:
Next up were these white mini buns with tofu patties, a chunk of red cabbage and a dash of mayo. The tofu was minced and mixed with spices, then deep fried. Pure goodness! I was suggested to have them with their peanut and chilli sauce. The combination was heavenly indeed.
Ohn O Tamarind:
This is an ultimate thirst quencher- healthy and delicious. Made of tamarind pulp and a dash of lime, this drink was garnished with coconut shavings and ginger. The tangy flavour was balanced with the sweetness of jaggery. This was served in a Burmese style ceramic cup sans any handle. To my utter joy, they put a bamboo straw in it- eco friendly and healthy again!
Ohn O Khao Swe/ Noodle Soup in coconut milk broth:
Loaded with healthy veggies and a welcome overdose of coconut milk, this flavorful soup was the ideal main course. The creamy soup left a lasting effect on the tastebuds and the warmth was so comforting even after I was full. The dash of cilantro and toppings like fried onions, fried garlic, peanuts, lemons and chilli ensured that this taste of heaven could be enjoyed the way it's meant.
Dining here was no less than living a memorable fairy tale. The hospitality of the staff, the food, the music, ambiance, decor and the lively indoor plants coupled with their tea room concept together put this place number 1 on my list of best restaurants in Delhi-NCR.
P.S. I'm definitely coming back for more!
